What is GTM Code? Basic Features Introduction and Implementation Demonstration for Easy Website Data Tracking!

Google Tag Manager (referred to as GTM) is a code management system provided by Google. Once the code is set up on the website, website analysts and marketers can easily install various tracking codes and third-party application tools on the website through GTM, allowing tracking and management to be done on the same platform.

Basic Elements of GTM

The 5 main traffic channels
1. Account An "Account" is the highest level in GTM. A single account can manage all the websites under it. Multiple codes can be organized using "containers," allowing the tracking of different website marketing performance simultaneously.
2. Container A Container is a place to store tags, where an account would have at least one container. Containers can hold multiple sets of tags and triggers. By setting triggers to "All pages," you don't need to include tracking code on every webpage. This enables tracking user behavior across the entire website, effectively saving time and effort in code implementation.
3. Tag "Code tags" (Tags) are snippets of code responsible for collecting relevant information. Each of these code snippets serves a different purpose, used to gather specific user behaviors for data interpretation and analysis.
4. Trigger A "Trigger" consists of variables, operators, and values. Users can select the type based on their tracking objectives, such as webpage views, clicks, visibility of webpage elements, form submissions, changes in webpage history, JavaScript errors, scrolling, timers, webpage videos (e.g., YouTube), custom trigger events, and more.

Implementation Example

Using the Google Chrome extension tool Tag Assistant Legacy (by Google) to check if the code is installed successfully.
Seeing the tags indicates a successful installation.
Step 3.b: WordPress Website Plugin (Code-Free, Easy-to-Use)
Search for and install the "Site Kit by Google" plugin in WordPress, then activate it.
In the WordPress admin panel, open the "Site Kit" plugin on the left side, and click on "Start setup."
Click on "Sign in with Google" to log in with your Google account.
Allow Site Kit to access account authorization.
Verify with Google to allow Google to place the GTM (Google Tag Manager) HTML code into your WordPress website.
Grant permission to Site Kit to read and display Google Analytics data on the plugin dashboard.
Configure the connection between your WordPress website and Google Search Console. Once set up, you'll be able to view the information on the plugin dashboard.
Connect your WordPress website with Google Analytics, then click "Next" to proceed with the setup.
Click "Continue," and allow the website to access your Google account.
Check the user agreement box to complete the Google Analytics setup, then click "Go to my Dashboard" to view your dashboard.
Click on "Settings" to check the connection status. If it shows "Connected," it means the connection was successful.
Step 4:Code Configuration
You can choose from commonly used code types for configuration, such as Google Analytics or Google Ads, etc.
Step 5:Select Trigger Conditions
You can configure code trigger conditions, such as webpage views, clicks, and user engagement, among others.
Step 6:Click 'Submit' to Complete GTM Configuration
Click on "Preview" to confirm the code implementation status. After verifying, click "Submit" to proceed with the publishing.
